Federation Cup: Mehrajuddin Wadoo Clears As Nirmal Chhetri Looks On, East Bengal vs JCT (Mango Peel)
Mehrajuddin Wadoo played a vital role in East Bengal’s 2-0 victory over Mohun Bagan on New Year’s Eve and he pointed at the obvious change in the team’s environment. What’s noteworthy of this East Bengal side is that they haven’t conceded for the last five matches.

“The spirit in the team is great and it can be seen on the ground as well. We are playing more as a team now and playing to win,” said the defender.

The former Mohun Bagan player mentions that clarity in knowing what they are supposed to do has cleared the doubts each had which has led to a better understanding and team play.

“Everything is set. Our defence has certainly become much better. Everyone knows their respective duties and automatically it becomes easier for everyone. The coach (De Ridder) has instilled a fighting spirit amongst us. He does a lot to motivate and pushes everyone to get to their best,” said Wadoo.

The Indian international is cautious and believes that taking Shillong Lajong lightly could prove to be fatal for his side as they have improved from the last time the two sides met.

“Lajong are a good team. Of course, if they have beaten Dempo and Churchill Brothers, you have to be good. They can do anything. However, we’ll play as we have played throughout in this tournament. I hope the rhythm will be the same,” added Wadoo.

The finals of the Federation Cup is to take place at Guwahati’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium between Shillong Lajong and East Bengal.
