The 34th Edition of the Federation Cup is underway in Guwahati where teams like East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, Shillong Lajong and Churchill Brothers are battling it out in the last four of the country’s biggest knock out tournament. So far the competition has seen various goals and some amazing moments. Here's putting together 10 of the best moments that the Federation Cup witnessed in 2009.

1. Lajong Stun Dempo

One of the big moments of the tournament came in the group stages when Federation Cup and I-League debutants Shillong Lajong SC defeated former I-League Champions and one of the favourites for the tournament, Dempo, 2-1. Goals from Anil Gurung and Tuboi sealed the match for Stanley Rosario’s side marking it as one of the Federation Cup’s most shocking moments so far.

2. Barreto’s Comeback

Jose Ramirez Barreto last took the field for Mohun Bagan in their 5-3 victory over East Bengal in November. After a month long break due to injury the Brazilian frontman returned for the Green and Maroon with style. He scored two goals in the match against Mohammedan Sporting to start the Federation Cup on a high.

3. Hattrick Hero Abhishek Yadav

How often do we see a hattrick in Indian Football? And even if we see one, it will be either be Odafa or Ranti Martins. But this time around Mumbai FC skipper Abhishek Yadav led from the front to score a brilliant hattrick against HAL in the last group match to seal a 4-2 victory for his side.

4. Pune FC Humble Dempo

Another big moment in this edition of the Federation Cup was the match between Pune FC, who had been tagged as the draw specialists, playing Dempo, one of the big names in Indian Football. Critics had predicted that Pune might have held the former champions at best, not knowing that their foreigner duo Edmar and Arata were enough to seal the victory for the Pune team.

5. Comeback Hero:

The Federation Cup saw another comeback, this time by Indian skipper Bhaichung Bhutia who took the field after an injury layoff for several days. Bhutia stepped onto the pitch in the 79th minute in the match against JCT, and within three minutes he scored the winner ensuring East Bengal progress to the Semis.

6. Big Crowd

The North East of India is known for its passion for football. The Federation Cup was being held in Guwahati after 39 years and we saw again how much the local people love the game. The average attendances in the stadiums in Silchar and Guwahati regardless of the teams in action were reported to be a minimum of 5000 which even big football cities like Goa or Mumbai fail to provide.

7. First Win For Chirag

Chirag United SC from Kolkata is often regarded as one of the rising powers in Indian Football due to their splendid opening spell in I-League this season. Though their Federation Cup outing has been a bit disappointing, the Men in Purple registered their first ever victory in their Federation Cup history, against Mohammedan Sporting.

8. New Revelation

Shillong Lajong Striker Seikhohao Tuboi is one of Indian football's most exciting finds. He possesses some amazing footwork and dribbling skills, as well as high workrate. He sealed the victory for Shillong against Dempo with his stunning bicycle kick, as well, delighting all the fans at the ground. Interestingly, he is just 20, which is why watching him in the Federation Cup can be regarded as one of the moments of the tournament.

9.Moment Of Madness

Moments are moments, be it good or bad! For East Bengal custodian Harmanjot Khabra, it was a special moment as he received his first ever red card in his career so far. The young right back was shown his marching orders for his rough challenges against JCT.

10. Sporting Return

Mohammedan Sporting returned to the national scene after facing the drop in last season's I-League. They started their Federation Cup campaign against Mohun Bagan. The Black and White brigade were 1-0 down when their skipper Jothi Kumar splendidly put the team back on level terms but unfortunately they couldn’t keep up the good work and lost 4-1. However, it was great to see India's third-most supported team back among the biggies.
