Federation Cup: We Believe In Our Ability - Mumbai FC's Khalid Jamil

The Mumbai FC coach spoke to Goal.com...

I Have Taken Up The Challenge: Khalid Jamil, Mumbai FC Coach
Sporting Clube De Goa came to Silchar with a renewed vigour and spirit about them with their former coach Vishwas Gaonkar being reinstated in the top job. It seemed that everything was going their way as the Flaming Oranje took lead within the first half hour through Nathaniel Amos.

However, the Mumbai club came from behind and went on to win the game and in the process, sending a strong message to their opponents that they cannot be branded ‘weak’.

“We were always playing for a win and believed in our ability,” said Mumbai FC coach Khalid Jamil.

“We conceded a silly goal due to our own mistake. However, the morale of the boys never went down and we equalised before the break to make it 1-1 which was very important.

“In the second half, we continued to press forward and we got the goal.”

At the hour mark, Sporting were a man down as Fulganco Cardozo was sent-off after his horrible challenge on Nishant Mehra.

“Of course, the one man advantage worked for us. It was a good performance from the boys. What was important is that we got the win,” said the former Mahindra United player.

Next on Mumbai FC’s plate are I-League champions, Churchill Brothers and Jamil isn’t flustered about facing the top side.

“Churchill have been playing with the same side for quite some time. I saw their game against HAL. It’s all about one man – Odafa (Okolie),” he said.

The win against Sporting has boosted their chances of qualifying along with Churchill Brothers and Jamil isn’t thinking too far ahead.

“I am thinking match-by-match. Next is Churchill and we are ready for it.”
