The Federation Cup To Be Conducted At Guwahati As Scheduled
The AIFF emergency meeting on Sunday decided that the Federation Cup will be conducted at Guwahati as scheduled. There were security concerns, as last month several bomb blasts rocked Assam's Nalbari district.
The winner of the Federation Cup gets an opportunity to feature in the AFC Cup which is the major reason why teams look forward to winning their tournament. However, several coaches have raised doubts as to whether the north eastern state which has it's own set of problems with several separatist movements on, would be a 'safe' environment to play the beautiful game.
It is learnt that Dempo shot-off a letter to the Indian FA asking for a change in venue of the Federation Cup but it was turned down at the All India Football federation's (AIFF) Emergency Committee meeting on Sunday. The Committee was satisfied with the Assam FA's claim that the state government of the north eastern state have assured the security of all concerned.
The decision hasn't gone well with the clubs and players as well as they still have their inhibitions to play in such an unsafe ambience.
