His frustration has been compounded by the stunning form of Nicolas Anelka, who was only signed from Bolton Wanderers as his temporary replacement.
It's all boiled over lately. The targetman 'returned' a coin to the Burnley fans during the now infamous Carling Cup defeat, before becoming embroiled in the transfer saga that no-one wants to know about.
Reports suggested that Drogba had dined with Inter reps in London, but this has been largely refuted by everyone except the striker, whose agent may be trying to rekindle Nerazzurri interest.
That may not be the case, but there's certainly something fishy going on.
Either way, Drogba has admitted that he's desperately unhappy and remains unsettlingly vague about his situation.
Talking to Sky Sports, he moaned: "You can say the last six months have been the worst in my career. It’s been really tough for me.
"I’ve been through difficult moments before, though, so I know how to get myself out of these."
Pressed on how he was going to go about it, he smiled, "...I will do it."
Asked about his coin chucking, a real low in his career, he replied: "Okay, my reaction was too much. I feel like what I’ve done is really, really, really, really bad.
"Now it’s better for me to be quiet. I need to get back on the pitch doing what I know best."
