As Los Merengues prepare for an extremely critical clash against Real Valladolid later on Saturday night, club president Ramón Calderón has done his bit in an attempt to encourage his troops.
Speaking to reporters on the eve of the game, in which he will be attending at the Nuevo José Zorrilla, the supremo reassured that the future remains bright for Bernd Schuster and his charges.
“Everyone in the team is very aggrieved but they have an incredible amount of desire to make things right again,” he said.
“They are a group who do not like to lose and they do not accept defeat and that is something that fills us with a lot of pride.
“I am confident that we have a team capable of getting out of a crisis much worse than this one, but that is not to say the current situation isn’t difficult,” assured Calderón.
El Presidente then went on to congratulate Real Unión for eliminating Madrid to book their place in the next round, but he also looked ahead to his club’s own future.
“The last few days have been very disappointing for us but it is necessary to look forward to the future.
“We are in a great position close to the top of the table in the league and there are still 28 rounds to go in La Liga.
“I believe that at the end of the season, we will be able to lift a second trophy (after the Supercopa),” he concluded.
