Governor's Gold Cup: Three Star Coach Delighted With Birthday Present
Three Star coach Upendra Man Singh was a pleased man after his team prevailed over Tata Football Academy (TFA) in the semi-finals of the Governor’s Gold Cup at the Paljor Stadium, Gangtok.
Singh is celebrating his birthday today and no gift would have tasted sweeter than tasting revenge against TFA, who had defeated Three Star in the semi-finals of the 2005 edition.
Interestingly, he was the goalkeeper of the Three Star side which lost to TFA in a heartbreaking tiebreaker. Commenting on the game, the Three Star coach said that his boys had played well in the first half where several goal opportunities were created.
The Nepal side had been beefed up with the presence of three regular players who had arrived from Kathmandu last night at Gangtok to play their part in the crucial match.
“We missed several chances in the first half. In the second half, our game went down and TFA boys played well”, said Singh.
“Finally we won because we utilized the final chance that came our way,” he added.
Singh has set his sights firmly on the Gold Cup.
“We have come here to lift the trophy,” he declared.
Three Star now faces Army XI on the finals on Saturday.
On the other hand, TFA coach Ranjan Chowdhury attributed a crucial defensive error for today’s loss.
“We made a crucial mistake at a crucial phase of the game and paid for it. We had played very well in the second half but were punished for a final error,” Chowdhury said.
