Can We Make It Into The Finals? India U-23 Coach Sukwhinder Singh Ponders Ahead Of The SAFF Cup Semis Against Bangladesh (Mango Peel)

India U-23 crashed to their third defeat in three games, as they went down 3-0 to DPR Korea. Ryang scored twice for Korea in either half, sandwiching Choe's goal in the second half. Sushil Singh was sent off late in the second half, as India come back home without a win. Korea will face Myanmar in the semis after topping the group.

It was bad news before the game started, as the Indian U-23 started with five players out injured, with neither Rowilson nor Ravanan featuring. The Koreans looked to seize the advantage, as they created several chances in the first half.

Ri Chol-Myong was guilty of bein wasteful in front of goal, as he missed three great chances within ten minutes. In the 23rd, he sent his left footed attempt wide when he should have hit the target. Two minutes later he sent another shot wide, this time with his right foot.

India were living on the edge, and Ri missed another opportunity just past the half hour mark, when his low drive was saved comfortably by Karanjit Singh.

However, India dug their own grave in the 36th minute, when young Lalindrika Ralte's attempted back pass only went as far as Ryang Yong-Gi, who raced through and finished comfortably with his left foot.

The Koreans could have doubled their lead just before half time, as Chae Tu-Yong chipped an advancing Karanjit, as he ran out to thwart another attack, but Gurwinder Singh was alert to track back and clear off the line.

The second half saw more of the same, and Choe Chol-Man scored in the 57th minute to give his side a two-goal lead, which was the least they deserved. He ran onto a sublime through ball from Sin Yong-Nam, took a touch to bring it onto his right foot, and sent in a powerful shot from the edge of the area which Karanjit could do nothing about.

Korea then added a third in the 72nd minute to make the scoreline do justice to the game, as Ryang headed in from a corner to score his second goal, subjecting India U-23 to a 3-0 defeat.

To add insult to injury, captain Sushil Kumar Singh was sent off in the 82nd minute, which is the second red card the Men in Blue have received in two games.

The Indians come back home with three defeats in three games, while Korea face Myanmar in the semis. Turkmenistan square off against Tajikistan in the other semi final.
