Perhaps the biggest deal done this January is not of a player, but of a manager. Pep Guardiola agreed to join Bayern Munich from the start of the 2013-14 season, bringing to an end a race for his signature, which began from the very day that he decided to resign from his post at Barcelona.
Clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea were the first to join the tussle for his signature, but the Spaniard was adamant on taking a year’s break in New York.
That might have cooled Liverpool’s interest, but Roman Abramovich remained in the hunt, refusing to give up on the chance to bring Pep Guardiola to Chelsea.
However the former Barcelona manager was also chased by the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United, who too were looking for a long-term successor for Sir Alex Ferguson.
While a recent interview of the Spaniard seemed to point at a wish to go to England, he was eventually lured by the stability and promise of the project at Bayern Munich, over the riches of the English Premier League.
But did he make the right decision? Let Goal.com know of your views by voting in the poll and commenting below….
