Prior to the twin play-offs, CR9’s fitness was the talk of the world as Real Madrid were sceptical about him joining the Portuguese camp. The former Manchester United player underwent a medical and was declared unfit.

Many began to doubt Portugal’s chances of making it to South Africa in next year’s football extravaganza. However, all the questions were put to bed by Carlos Queiroz’s boys as they beat Bosnia Herzegovina by a 2-0 (aggregate).

Though the qualification was by no means an easy process as Bosnia gave a good account of themselves in the away game and were unlucky not to have come out with at least a point. In their home game, they failed to create many chances and thus, missed the flight to South Africa.
