Let’s face it. Not many had expected India to lose against the West Asian side. The defeat left many disappointed and you had criticism coming in from several quarters with some questioning the need for having a tour to Dubai and Barcelona.

Coach Bob Houghton blamed the grass, which wasn’t cut by the tournament organisers, for the defeat and also added that his side could never play “good football” on that field given the condition it was on Wednesday evening.

With the format of the tournament being changed to a round robin one, India have another three games to go in order to make their way back in.

The first of those comes against Kyrgyzstan who too suffered defeat in their opening fixture of the tournament as they went down 2-0 to Syria.
