I-League: Shabbir Ali Satisfied With Mohammedan’s Performance
Mohammedan Sporting coach Shabbir Ali expressed his delight at his team’s performance against Mohan Bagan on Sunday in spite of suffering a defeat in the match.
Mohammedan lost 1-0 to the league leaders in the I-league at the Salt Lake Stadium, James Singh’s 14th minute goal sinking them.
The Mohammedan coach, though, seemed quite pleased with his side’s performance against their more illustrious neighbours. Addressing the media after the match, Ali said, "My boys played well. We had chances but we had bad luck. It was not our day."
Ali was also quick to congratulate his opponents and remarked, "We congratulate them (Mohan Bagan) for winning the match."
This defeat leaves Mohammedan second from bottom, three points from safety. When asked about this worrying situation, Shabbir Ali observed, "Even after our win against JCT (last weekend), I didn’t say that we are safe. It is a very tight league.
"But I am happy with the way my boys performed today. Given the way we are playing, we can surely make progress."
The match was marred by controversial referring decisions and Ali didn’t hide his frustration at all. He lamented, "The refereeing standards again were under par today. Something must be done about this."
