Mascherano: Fans want to see Argentina win
The former Liverpool midfielder is determined to see his national team return to their glory days, and highlighted the importance of a victory in Saturday's World Cup qualifier
Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano has said that Argentina's fans are eager to see their national team win titles again.Alejandro Sabella took charge of Argentina last summer with the task of taking La Albiceleste back to the top after the team's disappointing results in recent tournaments, including the 2011 Copa America.
Speaking ahead of Saturday's World Cup qualifier against Ecuador, Mascherano called on his team to build on the 2-1 victory against Colombia in November.
"The fans want to see Argentina win things and be protagonists again," he told reporters.
"We want to go on holiday with the feeling that we have done our jobs.
"We must make the victory against Colombia count against Ecuador on Saturday. We are aware of where we stand and the responsibility that we have."
Argentina are second in the Conmebol World Cup qualifiers after four matches, level on points with leaders Uruguay.
