The striker completed a move believed to be worth around €10 million on Wednesday, and on Friday was officially presented as the Rio de Janeiro club's newest acquisition after months of speculation and tense negotiations.
Vagner broke down in tears as he spoke in his first press conference since returning to the team he represented in 2010 and thanked the Flamengo directors for their efforts in making the deal a reality.
"I had promised that I would not cry, but I cannot do it. This gives me such joy," he told reporters, making frequent pauses to compose himself as he was visibly affected by emotion.
"I want to give all my thanks to God for being here. To thank the people who fought so hard so this could happen. It was tough, but we managed to win the war."
Vagner was also presented with the No. 99 shirt during the ceremony, which he will wear throughout the 2012 season.
