The coach of the Red Giants was exuberant ahead of the crucial AFC Champions League play-off against Pune FC…
Pune FC play host to Vietnam champions Hanoi T & T on Wednesday in round one of the Champions League play-off at the Shree Shivchhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi, Pune.
Phan Thanh Hung, coach of the Vietnam outfit, stated that his side have prepared well for the tie despite having played only four competitive matches this season, unlike their opponents who have 13 more matches to their name.
“This is our first game in the AFC Champions League and we have prepared very hard for it. We have a lot of respect for the home team, but we want to try and win this game,” he said.
Star striker Gonzalo Damian Marronkle isn’t at his best as he is carrying a knock and remains a doubtful starter for the visitors.
“Gonzalo has a small injury. We don’t want to risk anything. We will see in today’s training session and only make a decision thereafter.”
Hung praised Pune FC’s foreign contingent in particular as they have Douhou Pierre among their ranks who has the experience of having plied his trade in the Viertnam League with HAGL in 2007.
“They have a good mix of foreign and local players guided by a good coach. But our players are ready and we will try to do our best to get a good result on Wednesday.”
