Sandesh Jhingan replaces injured Gurjinder Kumar in India squad for Tajikistan friendly

The Indian national team has received an injury blow just a week before their international friendly against Tajikistan, as left-back Gurjinder Kumar is ruled out due to an injury

Sandesh Jhingan has replaced Gurjinder Kumar in the 20-member squad for India’s International friendly against Tajikistan.

The Pune FC defender, who has sustained a quadriceps injury on his right leg, has been ruled out for a minimum of four weeks. As such, Gurjinder would remain a doubt for the 2013 SAFF Championship, which is scheduled to kick-off on 1 September in Nepal.


The Indian contingent leaves for Tajikistan on the morning of 9th August.

The final 20-member list is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Karanjit Singh, Sandip Nandy, Subhasish Roychowdhury.

Defenders: Denzil Franco, Nirmal Chettri, Arnab Mondal, Gouramangi Singh, Raju Gaikwad, Sandesh Jhingan.

Midfielders: Mehtab Hossain, Lalrindika Ralte, Arata Izumi, Lenny Rodriguez, Jewel Raja Shaikh.

Forwards: Francis Fernandes, Shylo Malsawmtluanga, Clifford Miranda, Sunil Chhetri, Robin Singh, Dawson Fernandes.
