Al Wasl rubbish €1.4m Maradona pay-out reports
Reports in Argentina had suggested the former national team coach was expecting a massive compensation payout but the Dubai club said they only owe him two months pay
Al Wasl have reportedly moved to quell South American reports of a €1.4million (Dh6.24m) pay-out for sacked coach Diego Maradona. The Dubai outfit dismissed the Argentine legend after only one season of his two-year contract with the club, where they finished without a trophy and down in eighth in the 12-team UAE Pro-League.
Reports from South America had claimed Maradona believed he was owed a significant compensation pay-out. However, an Al Wasl official told Sport360 he would only receive two months pay.
“A formal contract between club and coach is with the UAE Football Association. It stipulates that if his contract is terminated in the second year of his contract he will receive compensation of two months salary, at Dh1.6m (€354,000) only," the source said according to the report.
"Rumours in the Argentine press are unfounded.”
