The Samurai Blue have named a squad of Europe-based stars and local talent for the friendly with the European minnows, which will be used to prepare for World Cup qualifiers

Japan coach Alberto Zaccheroni has named a 23-man squad including Keisuke Honda and Ryo Miyaichi for the upcoming May 23 friendly against Azerbaijan in Shizuoka.

The game will be used as preparation for the Samurai Blue's opening fourth round 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Oman, Jordan and Australia in June.

CSKA Moscow attacker Honda has been named in the squad after his recent injury troubles, while teenager Miyaichi is also included after a solid loan spell with Bolton from Arsenal in the Premier League.

Italy-based striker Takayuki Morimoto is a surprise call-up for the friendly, while there is opportunities for J-Leaguers such as Hiroki Sakai, Hideto Takahashi and Iranian-Japanese midfielder Aria Jasuru Hasegawa.

Among the notable absentees for the Azerbaijan friendly are Gamba Osaka pair Yasuyuki Konno and Yasuhito Endo, as well as Mike Havenaar while Marcus Tulio Tanaka is overlooked again.
