Melbourne Victory open to letting Socceroo Harry Kewell leave the club
The long A-League off-season means the 33-year-old will need to maintain his fitness somehow and the Victorians admit a loan deal could be the solution
By Ben Somerford
The 33-year-old Socceroo, as well as Costa Rica international Carlos Hernandez, will be involved in crucial World Cup qualifiers for their nations during the long A-League off-season which runs from April through to October.
Wilson told Fox Sports that allowing the pair to move elsewhere on loan made sense in terms of keeping the pair fit and sharp for those matches.
"It's professional sport and the issue for Carlos and Harry is that they're representing their country and there are World Cup qualifiers coming up," he said.
"We wouldn't hold a player back from being able to play if it's for those sorts of reasons. As long as we have insurance in place we wouldn't have a problem.
"Harry might want to keep playing and he could go overseas. But we have not spoken to Harry about it and he hasn't raised it either."
Adelaide United chairman Greg Griffin made it clear the Reds would be interested in taking Hernandez's on loan during their 2012 AFC Champions League campaign.
Hernandez comes out of contract at the end of this season, while Kewell is into the first year of a three-year deal.
