Qatar Sack Their Third Coach In A Year As Sebastiao Lazaroni Is The Latest Victim

Sebastiao Lazaroni has been sacked by the Qatar Football Association (QFA) after failing to impress in the latest edition of the Arab Games where the team make a first round exit.

In a press release, the QFA gave a “series of weak performances” as the primary reason for the termination of Lazaroni’s contract.

With over 25 years of coaching experience, his most notable work in the past was to coach the Brazilian national team back in 1989.

Under the 61 year old, Qatar are undefeated in the third round of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers in Asia and are just two points away from group leaders Iran, who they shall next face in February.

It must be remembered that Lazaroni was appointed after Milovan Rajevac was dismissed of his duties after winning against Vietnam, over two legs, with only a 4-2 scoreline in the 2014 World Cup qualifying second round.

Qatar has now seen three top coaches in a single calendar year with Bruno Metsu the first to be sacked after failing to make it into the semi-finals of the Asian Cup.

QFA mentioned that the new coach will be announced soon and will be “well aware of Qatari football” which makes Al Sadd’s Jorge Fossati as the favourite for the hot seat.
