Churchill Brothers suffered a humiliating 1-7 defeat against AFC Cup holders Kuwait SC in a Group B encounter in Kuwait City on Wednesday evening.

The result gives Kuwait SC top spot in Group B while Churchill's runner-up finish means they will face an away trip to another Kuwait outfit, Al Qadsia in the one-legged round of 16 clash.

Churchill were missing their skipper Odafa Okolie, who was ruled out due to suspension. But they were still confident of putting up a good show after nearly beating Kuwait SC in Goa.

But the hosts started strongly and took the lead after nine minutes through forward Khaleed Ajab.

The side from Kuwait doubled their advantage two minutes before the half hour mark when the Brazilian Careca (Rodrigo Vergilio) slotted the ball past a helpess Arindam Bhattacharya.

Kuwait SC continued to dominate and found the third in the 35th minute when Careca's knock-down from a Bashar Abdullah cross was brilliantly headed into the back of the net by Ajab.

The latter stages of the first half continued to be one way traffic as Churchill were happy to go into the break only 3-0 down.

Waleed Ali should have made it 4-0 at the start of the second half but he wasted a one-on-one opportunity.

Against the run of play, Churchill pulled one back through Nascimento Silveira in the 48th minute.

But two minutes later, Ajab restored Kuwait SC's three goal lead by completing his hat-trick after a converting an excellent pass from Careca.

Ajab bagged his fourth seven minutes later with a powerful first time shot past Arindam, with Careca once again providing the assist.

The result was never in doubt and for the rest of the game it was only a matter of how many more Kuwait SC can score as Churchill struggled and looked a shadow of the team that held the defending AFC Cup champions to a 2-2 draw in matchday two.

Substitute Rogerinho bagged a brace in the last fifteen minutes to make it an even more humiliating evening for the Indian champions.

Goalscorers: Khaleed Ajab (Kuwait SC) 9', 35', 50', 57', Careca (Kuwait SC) 28', Nascimento Silveira (Churchill Brothers) 48', Rogerinho (Kuwait SC) 76, 90+1'
