AFC Cup 2010: East Bengal To Take On Depleted Al Nejmeh Of Lebanon
Red and Gold brigade will be hoping for a positive result in Beirut.
By Rahul Sengupta
It was just hours before the team was all set to leave for Beirut via Dubai that the East Bengal players came to know about the hamstring injury of Indian captain Bhaichung Bhutia, which will force him out of action for the next three weeks.
After going down 4-1 at the hands of Syrian Club Al Ittihad, East Bengal are now in the Lebanese Capital of Beirut to play against former domestic champions Al Nejmeh.
The Lebanese team who are currently placed third in the league have problems of the their own. With acute financial crisis in the club the players are in a mood to protest instead of concentrating on the pitch.
To add to their woes Emile Roustam, who also happens to be the national team coach of Lebanon, has offered his resignation as coach of Nejmeh just days before the match.
Emile Roustam complained that the lack of finances has not allowed him to prepare the team in the last few weeks for this important game against East Bengal.
Al Nejmeh, who have just won two of their last seven games, are having a goal drought as they have failed to score in their last two home games.
With off the field incidents rocking the Lebanese team, Federation Cup champions East Bengal must make the most of it by getting all three points from this.
