Korea's Lee Complains Of Laser Beam In Saudi World Cup Clash
South Korean goalkeeper Lee Woon-jae has claimed that Saudi Arabian fans shone a laser beam in his eyes during Wednesday’s 2010 World Cup qualifier in Riyadh.
Korea won the match 2-0 but Lee, who has just returned to the national team after a year-long ban, told Korean media that the laser made life difficult.
“A laser was pointed at me and for a while it was hard to concentrate,” the 2002 World Cup hero said.
“This is against the spirit of fair play and there should be some punishment.”
Lee protested to the referee during the game and the Korean Football Association is considering a formal complaint to FIFA.
It is not the first time that a laser has made an appearance during Asia’s World Cup qualification campaign.
Japanese players complained that they were affected by the lasers pointed at them by Bahrain fans in Manama in September.
