The win has given Malaysia some level of satisfaction following the loss they suffered to the same Vietnam side in the final of the Merdeka Tournament a month ago.
Veteran striker Indra Putra Mahayuddin opened his team's account when he gave Malaysia the lead in the 26th minute before midfielder Amirulhadi Zainal added the second goal of the evening in the 40th minute.
Mohd Hardi Jaafar then rounded the night with the third and final goal for the Malaysians with a strike just ten minutes after the restart.
With the three points, Malaysia will now look to playing their last match in Group B of the Grand Royal Challenge Cup 2008 against Ulsan Hyundai from Korea Republic tomorrow.
The Malaysians are using the Grand Royal Challenge Cup 2008 as part of their preparation for the AFF Suzuki Cup 2008 next month where they have been placed in Group B against Thailand, Vietnam and Laos.
Group B will be based in Bangkok while Group A which will be in Jakarta will have hosts Indonesia, Singapore, Myanmar and Cambodia.
