Manchester United's Patrice Evra To Appeal Five-Match France Ban
Left-back set to contest decision...
By Rick D'Andrea
France captain Patrice Evra is set to appeal the five-match ban handed down to him by the French Football Federation's disciplinary commission.
Evra's lawyer, Jean-Yves Foucard says the Manchester United man had not received any form of notification with regards to the ban, which was for co-leading a training strike during the 2010 World Cup.
"To this day, Mr. Patrice Evra has not received notification of the decision by the Federal Disciplinary Commission [of the FFF] on August 17 banning him from the French team for five matches," Foucard explained to AFP.
"Mr. Patrice Evra has decided to appeal in that nothing untoward can be ascribed to him on an individual basis given that the responsibility for the said events on the [team] bus at Knysna is to all evidence collective."
Foucard went on to reveal that the appeal would "allow Mr. Laurent Blanc, the national coach, to select Mr. Patrice Evra if he so wishes as the appeal is suspensive."
The commission banned Evra and three other players for varying lengths for their involvement in the strike.
Franck Ribery, Jeremy Toulalan and Nicolas Anelka will serve their suspensions, whilst Eric Abidal avoided any punishment, being cleared of any involvement.
