Netherlands midfielder Nigel De Jong has hailed winger Arjen Robben as a "weapon" after a starring role in Monday’s round-of-16 win of Slovakia.
Robben opened the scoring after 18 minutes with a clever cut inside and low shot from outside the penalty area and the 26-year-old was also involved in the build-up for the second Dutch goal as Wesley Sneijder put the game beyond doubt with just six minutes remaining.
"[Arjen] Robben is our weapon. He is a super player. He can decide games, but a lot of our squad can do this, also those who are sitting on the bench like [Elijero] Elia or [Ibrahim] Afellay, just to name a few," De Jong told reporters after the game.
“You could see today what [Robben] is able to do. There is not just talk about him, everybody can see what speed he has. If you’ve got so much tempo and quality, you know that you can [help] win the game"
The Netherlands will now face either Brazil or Chile in the quater-finals on July 2.
