Goal.com Editors' Man Of The Match Sponsored By Turkish Airlines: Lucio (Brazil)
What was originally billed as one of the most highly anticipated games of the tournament so far turned out to be a complete disappointment for the neutral fan today, as Brazil played out a goalless draw with Portugal. Both sides knew that a draw would see them through to the next stage – barring an eight-goal turnaround from the Ivory Coast elsewhere – so the teams were not lined up in a particularly attacking fashion.
However, despite the clash not being particularly easy on the eyes, the world-stage heavyweights must be praised for their expert defending, and no player more than Brazil captain Lucio. The Inter star had the lone figure of Cristiano Ronaldo to deal with spearheading Portugal's attack, and the 32-year-old veteran dealt with the threat in a way that no other can. Snuffing out cross after cross, intercepting through-balls and generally throwing his weight around enough to keep runners at bay, the big centre-back deserves the credit for top of the match in an otherwise uneventful game.
