England striker Wayne Rooney can't wait to get started firing in the goals to lift the nation to World Cup glory.

Rooney, 24, found the back of the net during a successful 45 minute run out on Monday afternoon in the friendly against the Platinum Stars, but his eye remains firmly on the real prize.

The Three Lions kick-off their campaign against the United States of America on Saturday.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Rooney said: "It was a good run out, we needed the game and to play 45 minutes felt good. I was happy.

"I think so [got out of game what he wanted]. I would have liked to put a bit more in but I was happy with the 45 minutes.

"We're ready. This preparation game was for the big one coming up on Saturday and I can't wait now; the sooner it comes the better."
