Fabio Capello has stated that he will use England’s game with South African outfit Platinum Stars to fine tune his side before their opening game against USA on Saturday according to the Telegraph.

The Three Lions' boss has already lost captain Rio Ferdinand to ligament injury but when asked about the risk of playing the likes of Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney and Ledley King so close to their first game, he replied with "I don’t think so – touch wood."

His decision though has not been helped by England’s recent below par performances in their warm-up games against Mexico and Japan.

Capello also continued by saying: “Sure these are friendly games, but you have to prepare for the game against the USA.

"Of course we have to be careful about injuries but we have to prepare for the game against the USA. So, yes we do [have to play the first team].

"I have to play all the players that will play against the USA for 45 or 60 minutes.”
