World Cup 2010: There Is Still A Chance Didier Drogba Can Play For Ivory Coast - Agent

The African star's participation remains in doubt...

Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba fractured his elbow in a 2-0 win over Japan, prompting suggestions he will not be able to lead his side into the 2010 World Cup and will miss the tournament altogether.

However, the Chelsea player's agent, Thierno Seydi, still believes his client could feature despite the injury.

"We all got scared. The fracture is real, but I think any medical decisions have been put on hold [for the moment]," he told RMC.

"I am not a doctor, but it looks like he will have an operation. We'll see, but there is still a chance [he could play]. But there are no guarantees yet.

"When a player like Drogba says he will play, it is reassuring. In his mind he's still available [for the team]."

And the Ivory Coast Football Federation were equally as adamant their star could play some part.

A statement read: "He was taken urgently to a medical centre in Sion, where X-rays revealed a fracture in the player's right forearm area. Didier Drogba's state of health is the object of all the attention of the Elephants' medical staff and of distinguished specialists.

"The Ivory Coast Football Federation stress that the striker Didier Drogba has not, for the moment, been ruled out of the 2010 World Cup."

Meanwhile, Goal.com contacted a specialist at a sports clinic in Paris, who believes that the 32-year-old will not be back on the field in the near future. L'Equipe had reported the Elephants goal-scorer could undergo surgery and be back in ten days.

"Even if he puts in a plate or screw tomorrow, it certainly won't be solid," he explained.

"The slightest movement or fall could cause a relapse. I think 10 days [to recover] is extremely unreasonable and it's difficult to imagine for an athlete of this calibre."
