The tricky attacker wants to go far with Portugal at the 2010 World Cup...Portugal struggled to qualify for the 2010 World Cup and needed a two-legged play-off against Bosnia to book their ticket for South Africa. They impressed in the friendly against Cameroon on Tuesday though and attacker Simao is full of confidence ahead of this summer's tournament.
"We’re not lacking in ambition and we want to go as far as we possibly can. We also know that we have to take things step by step, and the first of them is the game against Cote d’Ivoire. We have to concentrate on that step first and then the next one. Hopefully at the end of it all we’ll have gone a long way," said Simao to fifa.com.
"If we give our all, if we keep on working with the same tenacity, drive, joy and commitment as we have up to now, then we’ll be able to hold our heads up high. Obviously we’ll be looking for some good results to go with that, but it’s difficult to set a target.
"Obviously the fact that we’ve been through a lot helps us grow as players and as a team. We have that inner strength and we have to make the absolute most of our capabilities, which include the maturity and experience that some of us have, and the desire and ambition that’s in all of us travelling to the World Cup."
Portugal meet Cote d'Ivoire, Brazil and North Korea in the group phase of the World Cup.
