World Cup 2010: Over 55,000 Tickets Sold For South Africa's Friendly With Colombia
SAFA CEO Leslie Sedibe confirms that more than 55,000 tickets have been sold for Bafana Bafana’s international friendly against Colombia at Soccer City.
Kick off for the match is tonight and Sedibe is confident that it could be sold out.
"SAFA is very happy with the current attendance at Bafana games," he said yesterday, according to Kickoff.com. "There is a recent phenomenon that is emerging and that is people are going back to the stadiums.
"It is quite an encouraging sign and it will be wrong of us not to acknowledge that. We are also happy to announce that for the match against Colombia we have sold over 55,000 tickets. The plan is to fill up Soccer City tomorrow and I think it will be a great match," he told the media gathered at the team’s base in Sandton this morning.
Meanwhile, Sedibe says the final 23-man squad for the World Cup will be announced publicly on June 1.
Initially, the association had indicated it would be announced on May 31, but that was before Carlos Alberto Parreira requested another friendly. Bafana will play against Guatemala on May 31 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, hence the decision to announce the squad officially on June 1.
"We have a deadline from FIFA (to submit the final squad) and it is May 31. We have committed ourselves to meeting the deadline so we will meet the deadline and we will make the announcement of the final 23-man squad the next day," he added.
