Germany coach Joachim Loew will have to make do without the services of young Stuttgart midfielder Christian Traesch at the 2010 World Cup as the 22-year-old has picked up an ankle injury.

The highly rated midfielder sustained the injury in Germany's 4-0 friendly win against FC Sudtirol on Monday evening and Traesch immediately feared that he'd miss the World Cup as a result.

Traesch underwent further examination on Tuesday and a scan has made it clear that the midfielder will be sidelined for about six weeks due to damaged ankle ligaments.

"Christian Traesch will not be available at the World Cup. We are all very disappointed with this news as he had impressed during training sessions and would have made the confirmed Germany squad," said assistant coach Hans-Dieter Flick on the official DFB website.

"We will not add a replacement to our provisional squad. Players such as Dennis Aogo and Heiko Westermann are also capable of playing in midfield and we have some variations in our mind."
