CONI (Italian Olympic Committee) president Gianni Petrucci is confident that Italy can win the World Cup.
"We are among the nations that can go all the way. There is no team stronger than us," he told the press.
Marcello Lippi has faced criticism for excluding a number of top performers from the Azzurri, with skeptics allaying chances of glory.
However, Petrucci feels history will repeat itself in South Africa.
"Four years ago people said Brazil were the favourites, but everyone saw what happened," he added.
"There are five or six nations who are all on the same level and we are one of those."
