Sirigu, Bocchetti, Cassani, Candreva, Cossu and Camoranesi are also unsure of their place.
According to Turin-based daily La Stampa, Italy’s 2006 World Cup hero Fabio Grosso might miss out on this summer’s finals as manager Marcello Lippi prepares to whittle down his provisional 30-man squad to 27.
Lippi will reveal this afternoon the names of the three unfortunate men who will be left behind and will not even take part in the Azzurri’s training camp at the mountain resort of Sestriere.
And the newspaper alleges that big question marks hang over the fate of Juventus full-back Grosso, who scored a magnificent goal in the semi-final against Germany four years ago and converted the final spot-kick in Berlin to hand Italy their fourth World Cup.
Grosso has had a sub-par season with Juve and is said to be in contention with Genoa defender Salvatore Bocchetti and Palermo’s Mattia Cassani for a place on the plane to South Africa.
Palermo goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu is expected to miss the cut while midfield trio Mauro Camoranesi, Andrea Cossu and Antonio Candreva represent further selection posers for Lippi.
