The veteran midfielder has told France coach Raymond Domenech that he's not interested in making a comeback for Les Bleus...Veteran midfielder Claude Makelele has turned down an invitation from France's national team coach Raymond Domenech to play at this summer's World Cup, according to a report in Le Parisien.
Domenech was apparently keen to include the former Real Madrid star in his 23-man squad for the 2010 finals and asked Makelele to reconsider his decision to retire.
Makelele retired from international football after France's disappointing Euro 2008 campaign, but his strong performances in the past couple of weeks for Paris Saint-Germain apparently prompted Domenech to try to lure the 37-year-old into a comeback for Les Bleus.
The former Chelsea star wasn't tempted by Domenech's request to reconsider his international retirement though and turned down the call-up.
Makelele will travel to South Africa this summer to work as a pundit for both the BBC and for Canal Plus.
