Everton defender John Heitinga is set to miss the rest of the Premier League season with an ankle injury, but his manager David Moyes remains confident that the Dutch international will be fit to play for Holland at the World Cup.

Moyes believes Heitinga will be able to feature in South Africa, but concedes that the former Ajax star is unlikely to play for the Toffees again this season.

"It won't affect his World Cup though. He will be fine for that. The injury just needs a couple of weeks rest," said Moyes during a press conference ahead of their weekend match against Fulham.

The Everton boss praised Heitinga's attitude and dedication, insisting that the player will earn the respect of the coaching staff while continuing to garner the support of the fans who appreciate his commitment.

"Maybe some players would say they want to rest because the World Cup is more important but Johnny Heitinga is not," stated Moyes.

"I think that is what makes him popular with the fans. It makes him popular with me and the staff too because he is someone with a really good attitude."
