World Cup 2010: 180,000 Tickets Sold After First Six Days Of Over-The-Counter Sales
Ticket sales for the first World Cup on African soil continue to soar.
By Peter Pedroncelli
After the first six days of the fifth and final sales period for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, a total of 180,000 tickets have been sold.
Out of those, 91,000 tickets were processed at the FNB branches countrywide, 42,000 via FIFA.com, 42,000 at the 11 ticketing centres, and around 5,000 at the 18 Shoprite/Checkers stores.
The ticket sales over the counter began with a few problems, with the FIFA site going down on a number of occasions, delaying the ticket sales and keeping South Africans waiting in queues all day.
Problems were later sorted out and 100,000 tickets were sold in the first 24 hours despite the setbacks.
By Wednesday, April 21 at 09:00, tickets for 27 matches were still available - with the opening game, final and semi-finals unavailable.
No trip to South Africa is complete without a visit to its most beautiful and sunniest city. Durban offers much more than sandy beaches, safaris, casinos and the World Cup, for information on what to do and see, please click here
