England fans are set to avoid a ticket scramble for this summer's World Cup.

The Football Association have announced that all fans who have applied through their official supporters' club should be succesful in obtaining the coveted briefs.

Supporters will take further satisfaction in hearing that unsold tickets handed back from England's group rivals will be given to the FA to sell on to their own fans.

England face Algeria, Slovenia and the USA in their World Cup group in South Africa this summer.

An FA spokesman told the Press Association: "We are currently processing all the applications and will communicate to our official 'englandfans' whether they've been successful in due course."

According to figures provided by FIFA, 22,479 tickets for the three matches have been sold through the FA, while another 5,400 are being distributed to clubs and organisations.

A further 48,184 tickets for the whole tournament have been bought in the UK via FIFA's website, with more tickets going on sale on February 9.

In total, an estimated 76,063 World Cup tickets have been sold to England fans - more than any other country apart from the USA.

FIFA said the new distribution system aimed to cut out fans being forced to look to black market tickets and a FIFA spokesman said: "We are trying to ensure that the real fans can access tickets through official sources and at the official price."
