World Cup 2010: Prize Money Up Sixty Percent
Football clubs and nations will be able to cash in on South Africa 2010...
FIFA has announced that prize money for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa is up 60 percent to $420 million.
The World Cup champions will walk away with $30 million, FIFA president Sepp Blatter said at a press conference following a 24-man Executive Committee meeting on Robben Island. The runners-up will receive $20 million.
FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke revealed that $40 million would be shared among the world's top clubs as a contribution to cover insurance and other expenses for their players involved in the World Cup tournament.
"Every club who has a player at the World Cup will receive $1600 per day, per player," Valcke said. "The money will be paid 15 days before the start of the tournament and to one day after the players' participation in the World Cup ends."
