England midfielder Steven Gerrard believes it is about time other countries started "fearing" the roar of the Three Lions.

Following the confirmation that England are among the top eight seeds in the World Cup draw, the talismanic Liverpool skipper explained that his national side can match almost any team stride-for-stride.

"It can only be to our advantage being seeded," Gerrard said on talkSport.

"I don't think we can be afraid of anyone.

"We'll certainly respect anyone we come up against but, for me, I think it's time other teams started fearing us.

"We're going there full of confidence, we are a very good team. We've still got a lot to learn but, the way we're playing, we're a match for most teams."

The Scouser has been subjected to criticism in the past with regard to his performances for his country, as critics claimed he was incapable of reproducing his club form on the international arena.

He added: "I feel my England performances have improved under [manager Fabio] Capello because I'm going out there without the fear.

"He's got the team playing without fear, without that weight of expectation upon our shoulders."

Despite losses to international heavyweights Brazil and Spain, the Gerrard insists that England can turn it around if the sides were to collide at some point in South Africa.

"Brazil and Spain have beaten us this year," the 29-year-old said.

"But in those games there's not been much in it. In a one-off game I'm confident we can turn those teams over."
