Republic Of Ireland Coach Giovanni Trapattoni 'Angry' Over France Defeat
Trap disappointed with Henry's part in the winning goal...
Giovanni Trapattoni said he was "angry" after his Republic of Ireland side lost out to France in their World Cup play-off in controversial circumstances in Paris on what he described as a "bitter evening".
The Italian coach saw captain Robbie Keane cancel out France's first leg advantage before the game when to extra-time and Les Bleus captain Thierry Henry, with the aid of his hand, set up William Gallas for a close range header to put France through to next year's World Cup finals in South Africa.
"I cannot speak I am so angry. It is a bitter evening, we played a great game. All the European people saw we deserved to win or at least get to penalties. In my life it is the second time something like this has happened. All I ask is for fair play," he said.
"There has been a big mistake, the referee could have asked Henry. It's clear, too clear, two situations [offside and handball]."
