Self belief secures a seat in South Africa for the Portuguese...

Raul Meireles - Porto (PA)
Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz thanked those who believed in his team after they overcame Bosnia in their World Cup play-off to book their place at the 2010 finals in South Africa.

A goal from Raul Meireles midway through the second half of their second leg to Portugal's one goal aggregate lead from the first leg and thus made sure of their place in the World Cup finals in South Africa.

"Thanks to those who believed in this team. The marathon is run until the end and we played until the last minute," he declared.

Goal hero Meireles said the Zenica pitch was in a "terrible state" but said his side worked hard to qualify and were happy to be in the World Cup.

"We are in the World Cup and we are very happy about it. From the beginning we trusted in ourselves and things went as we wanted," he remarked.
