Italy Defender Giorgio Chiellini: We Are Always Improving
Chiellini is satisfied with the winning goal and he is now looking ahead to a role in South Africa...
Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini is delighted with his match-winning performance against Sweden as his first half header settled the affair in Cesena.
The Azzurri finished 2009 in triumphant fashion as they scraped a 1-0 win against Erik Hamren's Sweden. It was the Juventus man who nodded home a Marco Marchionni corner to score his second ever goal in an Azzurri shirt.
"I believe I have improved really well over the last few years, and playing many times for Italy gives you security and tranquility when playing," Chiellini told Rai Uno.
"I have an important role here and I am really happy with what I have done. Now we have six important months and then it's the World Cup.
"I am really looking forward to the World Cup. It will be my first and I am always thinking about it."
Chiellini's Juventus team-mate Amauri may be eligible to play for La Nazionale by June, but the defender believes it's down to Marcello Lippi to choose.
Amauri? [Giampaolo] Pazzini is right. He is Brazilian, but if he becomes Italian by the time it's March, then it's Lippi's choice. That's our strength, always being open to all players."
