France Coach Raymond Domenech ‘Impatient’ For Ireland Clash

According to their coach, the 1998 world champions should be hungry to taste success once again at the Stade de France...

Just as France coach Raymond Domenech indicated that he couldn’t wait for les Bleus’ World Cup play-off first leg clash against Ireland on Saturday, he has explained that he is just as eager for the second leg to be over with on Wednesday.

Les Bleus command a 1-0 advantage ahead of the showdown at the Stade de France in midweek, gifted to them by Nicolas Anelka’s deflected shot, and the controversial head coach is well aware that there is much work yet to do.

“I hope the players are like me: impatient,” Domenech explained to the official website of the FFF (French FA). “[I hope they are] eager to play this game and, above all, qualify.

“We just want it to be in this game.”

Chelsea forward Anelka has previously indicated his desire for France to launch an attacking game-plan towards the Boys in Green, and Domenech has stated that France will not veer away from their usual tactics.

“We must play!” he cried. “The match starts at 0-0. Our strong point is that we are capable of scoring goals. We must continue to play  and cause them problems.

“They have talents, but we have the weapons to worry them. We must never forget what we are and what we can do. We must wrap the match up, saying, ‘Play to win.’”

France have reached each World Cup tournament since failing to qualify for USA 1994. A dominant force in the game since hosting the competition four years later, it would be something of an upset if an admittedly talented Irish side turned the tables on les Bleus in Paris.
