England Gave A Good Account Of Themselves – Ben Foster
Three Lions 'keeper points to weakened squad against Brazil...
England goalkeeper Ben Foster felt Fabio Capello's side performed well against Brazil given the circumstances and felt they acquitted themselves adequately.
“It was a tough match,” Foster told ITV Sport.
“The conditions, the weather, it was so hot for the boys.”
“It was always going to be a difficult match, they obviously had a lot more of the play and a lot more of the chances but I thought we gave a good account of ourselves.
“[England had a] bit of a depleted squad really, a lot of injuries, but I feel generally the lads did quite well.”
Foster refused to criticise his defence on the goal, choosing instead to praise the Brazilian creativity.
“I thought it was a good goal to be honest with you, it was a very good ball over the top.
"They've just lot a little bit more in their legs.”
“I wouldn't say he [Wes Brown] switched off, it was a good run from the player – terrific. Just sort of tucked in between two players and managed to get a good early header as well,” said Foster.
The 'keeper did concede a penalty though, and admitted he thought he was going to get his marching orders.
“I think I was [lucky], I expected the red card,” he conceded.
“There were a couple of decisions in the game, I thought there were a few strange ones. I thought Wayne was unlucky in the first half. But I thought I was a bit of a goner there.”
Foster was full of praise for Fabio Capello and admitted that he has been having a difficult time at Manchester United playing deputy to Edwin van der Sar.
“I hope so, every time I've come in the gaffer has given me a chance and I'm very thankful for that. I just want to play football."
“It's been difficult for me at United, I've not been playing too much. Fabio's doing wonders for me really so I'm just happy to be playing.”
