Aston Villa Defender Luke Young Rejects England Call-Up & Retires From International Football

Villan invited to join Fabio Capello's squad as Glen Johnson's replacement.

EPL: Luke Young - Benedict McCarthy, Blackburn Rovers - Aston Villa

Luke Young has sensationally announced his retirement from international football on the same day as he rejected the opportunity to link-up with Fabio Capello and the England squad ahead of their friendly against Brazil in Doha on Saturday.

Young recently revealed that the death of his 17-year-old younger brother acted as a catalyst for the loss of motivation when it came to his own football career.

He told the Daily Mirror: "It all came back to me on Saturday. It was quite emotional. In the first few weeks after what happened I didn't really want to do anything. It was really tough.

"Then you come in and train hard and it gives you something else to think about. Now it's a long time gone and I'm ready to focus on my football career."

Young was invited to join the Three Lions squad to act as cover for the loss of Glen Johnson, who withdrew due to injury.
