Cristiano Ronaldo Flying To Portugal For Medical
The world's most expensive player is set to prove he is injured...
Los Merengues had insisted that FIFA's regulations on injured players meant that if the club provided proof of injury then a player did not have to report if called into their squad.
Portugal countered by insisting that while they recognised that Ronaldo may have an injury they had the right to have their doctors evaluate him and issued a statement to that effect.
"Players who will arrive next Wednesday will be subject to medical tests that will determine their physical condition and ability to remain in the squad," the Portuguese federation declaration read.
The public spat forced the player into a corner and while he has admitted that he cannot play in the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers, he has not heeded advice from his national coaches.
Portugal are due to play Bosnia-Herzegovina in the two-legged play-off for a place in the World Cup Finals on Saturday and then again four days later.
Ronaldo was controversially named in the squad by former Real Madrid coach Carlos Queiroz despite him being told that the forward was out for at least a month with an ankle injury.
Instead of allowing the feud to continue Ronaldo has acted and flown to Portugal, according to Marca, where he will have the requisite medical tests on Wednesday and could then be allowed to return to Madrid.
