Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini has declared that Cristiano Ronaldo's situation regarding his involvement with Portugal for their World Cup play-off is a complex issue, as the player wants to play but cannot because of his injury.
The Chilean has insisted that the well-being of the 24-year-old has to be the primary interest of the parties involved and he says that the injury complicates matters.
"Everyone is watching their interests, but there is medical criteria that is important to understand," he said, as quoted by AS.
"There is no player in the world who does not want to play with his national team to try to qualify for the World Cup but there is a medical issue and I see it as very complex."
Pellegrini also declared that team spirit will get his side through their Copa del Rey clash with minnows Alcorcon at the Bernabeu tonight. The Segunda B outfit take a four goal lead into the second leg but Pellegrini believes his side can turn the tie around.
"It is always hard overturn a 4-0 deficit but that does not mean that we do not have spirit, belief and confidence. The spirit of the team will turn around the tie and that has to be reflected in the football, rather than words," Pellegrini noted.
