Arsenal's Kieran Gibbs 'Ready To Step Up' To England Senior Squad - Arsene Wenger

Youngster ready to grace the big stage...

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has declared that Kieran Gibbs is "ready to step up" and make the jump from the England U-21 to the senior national squad.

Ashley Cole remains as the first choice left-back for the national team, while Wayne Bridge is the next in line. An injury to either or both players could see a problematic scenario for the Three Lions in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Fabio Capello was present and watched Gibbs in the Gunners' 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the League Cup game at the Emirates Stadium, and Wenger believes that the youngster is capable of making it into the senior squad.

"Gibbs will get games and has already this season," the Frenchman told The Telegraph.

"If Capello asks my opinion, I'll give a positive one.

"He's ready to step up.
"

National team managers have been known to take a young talent as a wild card in major tournaments, as was the case when Sven Goran Eriksson called up Theo Walcott for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
